Patriotic Defend The UNION Evergreen Liberty and Freedom Stencil

Stencil Story

There were many iterations of the pine tree flag in the early American colonies. New England and Massachusetts colonies adopted it from 1686 to 1778, well after the revolution. The Pine tree therefore, immediately became a popular symbol of American independence in New England.

Washington's Cruisers Flag used the pine tree starting in1775.  This flag was used by George Washington on a squadron of six schooners which he outfitted at his own expense in the fall of 1775. This flag was a variation of the New England Pine Tree flag!
